New Boards and Features?

Category: Zone BBS Suggestions and Feedback

Post 1 by admin (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 12-Dec-2009 16:04:53

I know there's a need to filter out your favorite boards or hide certain boards from the new posts lists. Are there other features taht would help moving around the boards? Anything you've seen on other sites that would be cool here?
Also looking for ideas for new board categories. As we expand, there's usually a couple of good ideas for ways we can add new categories.
Thanks.

It would still be nice to have the ability to delete your own posts. Don't know if that's possible or not, but it would be sweet.

I still like the board for Service Animal users in the Animal House Board. Kinda like Religion Topics is in Safe Haven. A board for Women's issues and topics. A board for Men's issues and topics. A board for those that are physically disabled and blind. We have one for Deaf/Blind. Can't think of any more, but when I do, I'll be back.

I agree with the being able to delete your own Board Posts, but only in certain cases. For instance, I think it would be good to be able to have that ability on the Garage sale Board, since the buying and selling transactions are a temporary thing. You make an announcement that you want to buy or sell something, but once that transaction is over with, you really don't need that discussion thread anymore. And I still think it would also be good to have the Game Parlor in the Games section if possible; it'd make more sense there. Just my opinion. *smile*

I totally agree with moving game parlor to the game section!
cheers

I know you can address a specific poster at the end of a thread, but if possible, I'd like the ability to insert a post in a long thread right under the post I am replying to. For example, if I come across a board topic after it already has 25 replies, and I want to comment on something that poster 5 said, it would be cool to insert my comment right under post 5 instead of at the end.

Post 7 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Saturday, 12-Dec-2009 22:09:05

Yeah, that would be cool! It's frustrating to remember the nameand post number of the post you want to comment on. I like this idea.

Post 8 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Saturday, 12-Dec-2009 22:54:32

The ability to edit your posts.
The ability to delete posts that you have made.
The ability to delete entire threads that you have started.

I'm really weary about the editing and deleting thing, though I know a lot of sites now allow this with some sort of tag. Will have to think about this one again. Going to figure out something to do with the Game Parlor. Moving it to games would be a bit of a coding nightmare honestly since I'd have to somehow separate it out of the boards code and database. But some sort of filter should be possible.

Post 10 by cumbiambera2005 (i just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 13-Dec-2009 1:13:04

I don't think the game board should be moved to the game parlor, but instead maybe some kind of board filter that users could customize in their account. Also I don't think it would make a lot of sense to be able to delete single posts, but I think it would be good to delete topics, or maybe close topics, so that if you were already done with a certain topic, you would be able to close it so that noone else can reply.

Post 11 by season (the invisible soul) on Sunday, 13-Dec-2009 2:48:13

the ability for user to delete their own created topic and post might not be a good idea. however, user should only able to delete their post in a certain period of time, let say, in between 24 hours ones they posted. i don't see any reason, for user to delete one post after they have posted for a longer period of time.
also, a fiture that able to close a topic down after certain of inactive time will be good. so that, users won't find topics that posted in 2004 or 2005, and reposted them, where everything else is so out of date.
besides that, i wish we could move the "go to page fiture" for multiple page topic after the reply fiture. personally, i always eddit my reply in the wrong box deal to that confusion, and i know, some of the zoners have the same problem too.

Post 12 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Sunday, 13-Dec-2009 2:59:42

I don't get the problem with an old topic resurrected, if you're adding relevant info. Otherwise, there'd be more topics on the site. I moved the reply box. That one was simple to do.

Post 13 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Sunday, 13-Dec-2009 3:27:16

Though I do like the idea of being able to reply to each individual board post instead of just at the end, the problem is, it kinda can get rather confusing and cluttered; speaking from experience on other sites.

Post 14 by season (the invisible soul) on Sunday, 13-Dec-2009 4:20:29

yeah, agree on that. it will be very confusing and messy if we allow people reply to each individual post. it will have major trafic issue too

Post 15 by krisme (Ancient Zoner) on Sunday, 13-Dec-2009 11:27:37

Not sure if we have something like this already, but it would be cool if there was a filter that would allow us to only view topics we've created or replied to. I also agree that there should be a reply to a specific post function, as well as with several of the new boards suggested above. And if it's not possible to move the Game Parlor threads, would it be possible to filter them out of the Topics with New Posts?

Post 16 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Sunday, 13-Dec-2009 13:32:40

deleting posts, not so keen on, but, deleting the thread that you started, yes...

and, insted of inserting a comment under a post, but, to ammend what libra lady said, how about a quote button, that puts the post in the box, then, you keep reading, if you find what else if anything yoou want to comment on, you hit quote again, and so on, so you can address that as you go type thing?

i know what i'm trying to say, i hope i make a bit of sense?

Post 17 by Striker (Consider your self warned, i'm creative and offensive like handicap porn.) on Sunday, 13-Dec-2009 16:36:00

i'm truely not sure if edditing/removing postes is a good thing to add as a feature. All the drama it would cause.
I think a reply with quote feature would work well but I personally wouldn't want to see direct replies to a spasific poste right under them as they would disrupt the flow of the conversation. This happens on many sights i've been too in the past.

Post 18 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 13-Dec-2009 22:57:56

We do hav that already Chrisme, in your pfofile, click on the number of posts you have. It'll take you to a page where it will show you all the topics in which your username appears for posting.

Post 19 by Stevo (The Established Ass) on Sunday, 13-Dec-2009 23:31:06

That's the post by a user page. I know it's not very important, but wouldn't it make sense for there to be a link to that page somewhere in the boards? At this stage it's only accessible through the profile viewer.

Post 20 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Monday, 14-Dec-2009 5:24:31

Personaly I wouldn't want to see the ability to delete posts, they would disrupt the thread, and in many cases make subsequent posts pointless and nonsensical.
Likewise, I wouldn't want to see a reply placed under the post it refers to, as this would make it harder to see what posts you've read and not read.
As for editing, we already have this at time of posting, and feel to offer more than that is beyond necesary.
I would like to see the ability to lock a topic you created if you feel after a time you don't want more posts to it, that it's died it's death. to remove topics though again I don't think should be alloud.
I think the search feature needs to be far better, as in the past I've tried to search the boards and found little or nothing relevant to my search though I know what I'm looking for is burried in here somewhere.

totally agree with everything Kevin; what is this? Lol

Post 22 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Monday, 14-Dec-2009 9:48:22

hi everyone.

okay my thoughts. :)

firstly, i'm against removing topics. not only will it mess up the data base, but you have the edit feature (optional when you post). so to be honest, we don't need to go further than that.

locking topics is a great idea. firstly for topics that may be getting out of control, or topics that just arn't getting responses anymore.

as for the replying to each board post, i think that's great. we could have a little reply button below each post, and you can have the option to quote part of the message you are replying to. let's say something was said in a post that was a really good point, yet you forgot what the actual words were. it would be nice to quote that part of the message, putting your comments underneath.

as far as the search goes, it does need to be improved. what i am thinking is very complicated, but if we had a couple of boxes that said:

at the top, some check boxes that say search in topic text, or search in topic title. then you write what you want to search for, and next to that there could be a combo box, either displaying a list of the boards (if you know where it was posted), or a list of date/ times if that was easier for people.

How would it mess up the database? if anything it would help the database since its so full of old crap anyway.

Post 24 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Monday, 14-Dec-2009 14:02:55

but i thought the reason that we never removed posts is because each post had a special id or something?. i am sure that ages ago someone did mention a data base, issue. oh well.

another idea (and i'm not sure how many people subscribe to topics) but a link to watched topics. say for example you get a message that someone's responded, and you don't get another one until next time you log in, there may be loads more responses by then. a jump to watched topics, or subscribed topics would be really awsome.

i think that there should be like a little check box or something that sayys don't see this board again etc and you could just go to your acount settings or something and undo it if you wish

Post 26 by Brooke (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2009 10:49:10

I think we need a better filtering system so that we can opt not to see posts from certain boards.

I like the "reply with quote button" idea. It would make replying to a specific post in a thread much easier.

I don't think we need to be able to edit or delete posts, but it'd be nice for the author of a thread to be able to lock it.

Post 27 by Dirty Little Oar (I'd rather be rowing.) on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2009 12:02:04

Moving the game parlor to the games section seems odd to me. Yeah, they're games, but it's all user generated via the message board system so it seems more appropriate to leave it in the boards. Personally, the game threads drive me nuts and I'd rather not see them but board filtering would solve that problem and let the game board folks still do their thing. moving the game board to it's own section seems like unnecessary work to me. I also like the reply with quote idea.

Post 28 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2009 13:14:49

check boxes for each board?

well i suppose we could have a bit in the acount settings called click here to edit your board filters. all those boxes just in the main acount page would get very cluttered

Post 29 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2009 14:19:35

deleting posts you put in a thread not started by you, i don't like, but to delete an entire thread you started i like... and i don't see how it would mess it up...

I love the do not show this board again feature.
